What Is Your Sculpture Worth?

The global market for fine art sculpture is highly prestigious and robust, commanding substantial attention from international museums, corporate collections, and private connoisseurs. Unlike two dimensional mediums, sculpture introduces the complexities of three dimensional space, material permanence, and tactile presence. From the classic marble and lost wax bronze castings of the 18th and 19th centuries to avant-garde mid-century mobiles and large scale contemporary installations, the sculpture market is driven by scale, historical importance, and foundry excellence. Because a prominent sculpture often serves as a focal point or a highly valued institutional anchor, market demand for authentic, well preserved pieces remains exceptionally resilient.

Our dedicated fine art and three dimensional heritage specialists offer precise, market reflective valuations across all periods and styles of sculpture. We regularly appraise original works executed in traditional metals like bronze, brass, iron, and lead, as well as carved stone, marble, alabaster, wood, terracotta, plaster, and modern mixed media or found objects. Whether you own a classical gallery bronze, a mid-century modernist abstract piece, or a cutting edge contemporary sculpture, our team cross-references real time international auction data and private gallery sales with our deep institutional knowledge to establish an accurate fair market or insurance valuation.

Determining the definitive value of a sculpture requires a sophisticated evaluation of physical, technical, and historical variables. Much like our analysis of other fine art categories, we rigorously investigate artist attribution, historical significance, and documented provenance. However, sculpture introduces specific material criteria; we carefully examine foundry marks, casting numbers, and signatures to verify authenticity, evaluate the quality and age of the patina, and check for structural integrity issues such as metal fatigue, cracks, chips in stone, or historic repairs. This meticulous approach ensures you receive an authoritative, certified appraisal report you can entirely trust.

What Our Specialist Looks For When Valuing Sculpture

Artist Attribution: Is it incised with a signature, monogrammed, stamped with a foundry mark, or can it be attributed to a known school, workshop, or circle?

Medium & Casting: Is the work cast in bronze, carved from marble, wood, or alabaster, or constructed from modern mixed media materials?

Size & Presence: What are the dimensions and weight? Does the piece possess a commanding presence or 'floor power' suited for a large gallery or garden, or is it a smaller, more intimate cabinet sculpture?

Condition & Preservation: Are there signs of metal fatigue, chips, cracks, structural instability, loss of detail, or alterations to the original patina?]

Rarity & Subject Matter: Is the subject highly desirable or typical of a sought after period in the artist's career?
